Every SEO company in Salt Lake City says the same six words: we get results for our clients. Almost none of them will open Google Search Console in front of you and show the line going up. That is the only test that matters, so this article is that test. Three Salt Lake County clients, their real graphs, the keyword data underneath them, and the audit that started all three.

We are based in Draper, on Alder Glen Lane, and most of our work is inside a twenty-minute drive of the office — Salt Lake City, Murray, Millcreek, Sandy, West Jordan, Cottonwood Heights. The numbers below come from Google's own reporting on those accounts. Nothing here is an estimate.

The short version

One client's Google impressions went from 800 to 2,466 in thirty days — a 208% increase — and produced the first phone call the business had ever received from its Google listing. A second went from 3 clicks a month to 45, then held at 46, after we built the city pages its first audit said were missing. A third had a site scored 57/100 by an automated tool; our hand-verified audit found the tool was wrong twice and the real score was 73, with a single genuine bottleneck. All three started with the same free website audit.

Why Every Engagement Starts With the Audit

An SEO retainer that starts with "we'll write four blog posts a month" is a guess. You cannot know what to build until you know what is broken, what is already working, and where the demand actually sits. So we do not sell a content plan on day one. We sell an audit, and it is the most valuable thing we produce.

A Novarte AI audit does four things, in this order:

1. Crawls every page and scores four categories — technical health, on-page structure, structured data, and off-site authority, out of 25 points each. One number per category, so you can see instantly which of the four is holding you back.

2. Verifies the crawler by hand. This is the part almost nobody does, and the My Pristine Home case below shows exactly why it matters. Automated SEO tools produce false positives constantly. We check every deduction against the live page before it goes in the report.

3. Maps real search demand against the pages you actually have. Not a list of keywords you could rank for — a de-duplicated count of how many people search each term in your market every month, matched against your URL list, so the gaps are obvious.

4. Ends with a ranked task list. Highest leverage first, with the reason attached. If the honest answer is "your site is fine, the problem is you have three backlinks," the audit says that instead of selling you a redesign.

The audit is free and there is no call required. Run it at novarteai.com/audit and the scan comes back to you. If you want the hand-verified version with the keyword demand study attached, that is the conversation — but the scan itself costs nothing and you keep it either way.

Case 1: BBB Mobile DOT Drug Test — Impressions Up 208% in One Month

BBB Mobile DOT Drug Test is a woman-owned mobile drug and alcohol testing company serving trucking fleets across the Wasatch Front. When we started, the website was effectively one page: in June 2026, five of its seven total Google clicks landed on the homepage. Everything else on the site was invisible.

Here is June against July, straight out of Search Console.

The site went from 800 to 2,466 impressions and picked up 42 pages earning impressions across 241 distinct search terms. One page, /blog/dot-drug-test-cost-utah, went from zero to 214 impressions and its first ever click inside a single month.

But the number we care about most is not in the totals. It is where the clicks landed.

Where the clicks landed: one front door, or a whole site?

July 2026 — 14 clicks total

Homepage only5 of 14  ·  36%
Service, location & blog pages9 of 14  ·  64%

Homepage clicks held steady at 5. Every additional click came from a page that did not previously earn any — post-accident testing, Sandy–Draper, West Valley City, Bountiful, the pricing blog and the glossary.

That is the shift that actually compounds. A site with one working page has one ceiling. A site where nine of fourteen clicks arrive on service, location and blog pages has forty-two ceilings, and each one can be raised independently.

The honest part of this graph: average position fell from 22.1 to 24.2 over the same month, and click-through rate slipped from 0.9% to 0.6%. That looks bad and it is not. Nothing that was already ranking got worse. The averages were diluted by a large batch of brand-new rankings that started on page three, where nobody clicks yet. Those are next month's gains sitting in the queue. An agency that hides this from you is hiding how SEO works.

Case 2: Mecham Chiropractic — 3 Clicks to 45, and the Diagnosis That Got Them There

Mecham Chiropractic is a five-star practice in Millcreek with 434 Google reviews. The reputation was never the problem. The website was.

Our opening audit put the diagnosis in writing, and it was blunt. The site ranked for 23 keywords in total. Exactly one of them sat on page one — the practice's own name. That is a page-one penetration rate of 4.3%, with 22 keywords stranded on page two and beyond. Roughly 75% of the site's entire search value came from people already typing "mecham chiropractic," which is not marketing. That is a phone book.

What the first audit said, word for word

“All major rankings point to the homepage. There is no dedicated Chiropractor Salt Lake City page, no dedicated Chiropractor SLC page, no city-optimized service page cluster. Google is ranking the homepage by default, not because it is optimized.” The fix list was ranked, and the top two items were specific: build the city pages, then acquire 20–30 local referring domains.

Here is what then happened to the traffic.

Google Search Console clicks — 28-day windows

Three clicks in a month is a website that does not exist. Forty-six is a website that works. Closing that gap took two things, and the audit named both of them before either was built.

Thing one: build the pages the audit named

The homepage was trying to rank for every city at once, and therefore ranking properly for none of them. So we built a dedicated page per city. Here is where those pages sit in Google now — none of them existed at the first audit.

Scale runs 0–30. Shorter bar = higher in Google.

Three of the four city pages landed on page one. Cottonwood Heights is the one still on page two, and we know exactly why — it is the newest and it has the fewest internal links pointing at it. That is a named, fixable problem rather than a mystery.

Thing two: close the authority gap the audit measured

The first audit counted 36 referring domains against a local competitor average of 60–70, and put a number on the fix: acquire 20–30 more. Here is what that looked like a month later.

Authority: first audit vs 12 June 2026

The audit asked for 20–30 new referring domains. It got 23.

Note what did not happen. Nobody redesigned the website. The technical foundation was already close to perfect and the audit said so — on-page score 99.81 out of 100 across 40 pages, zero broken links, zero duplicate titles, zero missing H1s, zero missing alt text, zero non-indexable pages, and a cumulative layout shift of zero. There was nothing to rebuild. The problem was that a technically excellent site had no pages for the cities it served, and not enough of the internet pointing at it.

The number that looks like a setback, and is not

Google shipped a core update that finished rolling out on 2 June 2026. When we re-audited on 24 July, the tool's ranked-keyword count had fallen from 31 to 19 — 24 terms dropped out. Read on its own, that looks like the account went backwards. It did not, and this is exactly why we never report a single number.

A ranked-keyword count includes anything sitting anywhere in Google's top 100. A term at position 95 slipping to 101 registers as “lost” even though nobody was ever going to click it. That band is where a core update does its reshuffling.

Look at what was actually sitting in that band for this practice in June: mccray chiropractic, mace chiropractic, machmer chiropractic, carmack chiropractic, ups sugarhouse. Those are four rival clinics' names and a parcel shop, ranked between positions 32 and 67. Losing them costs the business nothing.

Over the same stretch the terms that matter went the other way. By 24 July the practice held #1 for its own name, #4 for “murray chiropractic utah” and #5 for its highest-value term, “murray chiropractic and car accident.” Page-one keywords went from one to four. Estimated traffic rose on every single measurement.

This is why “we grew your keywords by 40%” is a meaningless sentence. Ask instead: how many are on page one, and did estimated traffic go up? Those two questions cannot be gamed by a pile of position-90 rankings for other people's brand names.

The genuine open item on this account is speed. The July re-audit measured mobile Largest Contentful Paint at 5.2 seconds against Google's 2.5-second target, with render-blocking files on every page. That is the top priority now, ahead of any new content, because it uncaps every page at once.

One last detail, because it is the kind of thing an audit catches and a content calendar never will: Mecham's average position on mobile is 10.0, against 19.4 on desktop. Google ranks the same site nearly ten places higher on a phone. For a local health practice, where most searches happen on a phone, that is the number to optimise around — and it stays invisible unless someone splits the report by device.

Case 3: My Pristine Home — The Audit That Overruled the Tool

This is the case that best explains why we charge for judgement rather than for software. My Pristine Home is a Utah house-cleaning company with a 73-page website. We ran the standard automated crawl across 69 pages and it came back with a score of 57 out of 100, flagging missing structured data and thirteen thin-content pages.

Both flags were wrong. We checked them by hand against the live site.

Automated crawl vs hand-verified audit

Technical health25 / 25
On-page structure25 / 25
Structured data (schema)20 / 20
Off-site authority (backlinks)3 / 25 — the real problem

Two of the tool's deductions were verified false. Structured data: the crawler samples one page and reported none — the site carries valid JSON-LD on 70 pages. Thin content: the crawler measures text against code and the site's large inline schema deflated that ratio — the real median page is 1,080 words.

Read that last bar again. Three categories are perfect. The entire problem with this website is that almost nothing on the internet links to it.

If we had sold this client the report the tool produced, they would have paid for a schema rebuild they did not need and a content rewrite on pages that were already 1,000 words long — and the actual bottleneck would still be there twelve months later. That is the difference between running a tool and doing an audit.

The keyword half of the same audit found something worse. The site ranked for four keywords in total, all of them brand or accidental matches. Meanwhile we counted 1,451 relevant search terms in this market, worth 47,680 searches a month. The site had dedicated city pages for Lehi, Herriman, Highland and Vineyard — towns where "house cleaning [city]" returns zero monthly searches. The term "house cleaning salt lake city" gets 480 a month and had no page at all. Six city pages built, and the one city with real demand was missing.

That finding is worth more than a year of blog posts, and no automated report will ever hand it to you. It requires someone to put the demand data and the URL list side by side and read them together.

The Keyword Research: What Actually Ranks in This Market

We ran the same demand study on our own market that we run for clients. Here is what the Salt Lake City SEO landscape looks like in August 2026, with monthly search volume and keyword difficulty scored 0–100.

Start with the finding that surprises people: nobody searches for a Draper SEO company.

Draper search termMonthly volumeDifficulty
seo company draper utahNo dataNo score
draper utah seoNo dataNo score
seo agency draper utahNo dataNo score
local seo draper utahNo dataNo score
seo draper utNo dataNo score

Every one of those returns no measurable monthly volume and no difficulty score. It is not that they are hard — it is that they barely exist. A Draper business owner looking for help does not type "seo company draper utah." They type "seo salt lake city" or "local seo utah."

We saw the identical pattern in the My Pristine Home data: "house cleaning draper utah" gets 10 searches a month against 480 for Salt Lake City. In this valley, the city name people search is Salt Lake City, and every suburb rides behind it.

So a Draper page earns its place for proximity, trust and map-pack relevance — and the ranking targets are the Salt Lake City and Utah terms. Here is that list, sorted by how winnable it actually is.

Keyword difficulty is a 0–100 logarithmic estimate of how hard it is to reach the top ten organic results. Volume figures are Google Ads averages, which group close synonyms into shared buckets. Data pulled August 2026.

Read the two groups together and the strategy writes itself. "Free seo audit" gets 1,300 searches a month and scores 77 — unwinnable for a local agency. "Local seo utah" gets 90 and scores 6. The second one is worth more, because 90 people who will actually hire someone in Utah beat 1,300 people comparing free tools worldwide.

This is the whole long-tail argument in one comparison, and it is the same argument we made to My Pristine Home about building a Salt Lake City page before a Vineyard page. Chase the term with intent behind it and a difficulty score you can actually clear.

What This Means If You Are Choosing an Agency

1. Ask to see a Search Console screenshot from a current client. Not a dashboard the agency built. Google's own reporting, with the month-over-month numbers visible. If they will not show it, they do not have it.

2. Ask what happened to average position while impressions grew. If they say it went up, be careful. When a site starts ranking for many new terms at once, average position usually dips first — the BBB graph above shows exactly that. An agency that understands its own data will explain the dip. One that does not will hide it.

3. Ask which of the four audit categories is your weak one. Technical, on-page, schema, or authority. There is always one that dominates. If they cannot name it, they have not looked.

4. Ask what they are choosing not to do. The My Pristine Home audit's most valuable sentence was "your schema is fine, don't touch it." An agency whose recommendation list is everything they happen to sell is not diagnosing anything.

5. Check they split mobile from desktop. A ten-position gap between the two, like Mecham's, changes what you should work on next. It is a two-click report and most people never run it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose the best SEO company in Salt Lake City?

Ask for a Google Search Console graph from a current client, with the month-over-month numbers on it. Impressions, clicks, indexed pages and average position are all measured by Google, not by the agency, so they cannot be dressed up. An agency that cannot show you a real before-and-after in Search Console is selling activity rather than results.

What does an SEO audit actually include?

A Novarte AI audit crawls every page and scores four categories out of 25 each — technical health, on-page structure, structured data and off-site authority. Every deduction is then verified by hand against the live site, because automated crawlers produce false positives. It finishes with a keyword demand study that maps real monthly search volume in your market against the pages you actually have, and a ranked task list with the highest-leverage item first.

How long does SEO take to show results in Utah?

Impressions move first, usually inside 30 to 60 days, because Google starts showing new and improved pages before anyone clicks them. Clicks follow as those pages climb from page three toward page one. In one Salt Lake County account, impressions went from 800 to 2,466 and clicks from 7 to 14 in a single month — while average position temporarily fell, which is the normal side effect of ranking for many more terms at once. In another, monthly clicks went from 3 to 45 once the site had dedicated city pages to rank with.

Is there any search volume for "SEO company Draper Utah"?

No measurable volume. As of August 2026, keyword tools return no monthly search volume and no difficulty score for "seo company draper utah", "draper utah seo", "seo agency draper utah" or "local seo draper utah". Draper business owners search "seo salt lake city", "local seo utah" and "seo company utah" instead. A Draper page is still worth having for proximity and map-pack relevance, but the ranking targets are the Salt Lake City and Utah terms.

Which Salt Lake City SEO keywords are realistically winnable?

The low-difficulty cluster. In August 2026 data, "local seo utah" scores 6 out of 100 difficulty at 90 searches a month, "utah local seo" scores 12, "seo salt lake city" and "salt lake city seo services" both score 13, and "seo company salt lake city" scores 22 at 170 searches a month. The terms to avoid early are "seo companies in utah" at 44, "seo in utah" at 62 and "free seo audit" at 77.

Do I need separate pages for each city I serve?

Only for cities with real search demand behind them. Mecham Chiropractic's city pages work because "chiropractor" plus a Salt Lake County neighbourhood is genuinely searched — three of the four sit on page one, and none of them existed before the audit called for them. My Pristine Home had city pages for four towns where the equivalent term returns zero monthly searches, while the one city with 480 searches a month had no page at all. Check the demand before you build the page.

Where is Novarte AI located?

Novarte AI is based at 15095 S Alder Glen Lane, Draper, UT 84020, and works with businesses across Salt Lake County — Salt Lake City, Murray, Millcreek, Sandy, Draper, West Jordan and Cottonwood Heights — as well as clients outside Utah.

A note on the data: every client figure above comes from Google Search Console and Google Business Profile reporting on live accounts, used with the clients' permission. The BBB Mobile DOT figures compare July 2026 against June 2026. The Mecham before-and-after compares that client's opening audit against a 28-day Search Console window ending 12 June 2026, with a follow-up audit on 24 July 2026. The My Pristine Home audit was run on 23 July 2026 across 69 pages, and its keyword study on 10 August 2026. Keyword volume and difficulty were pulled in August 2026 and will drift — check them before you act on them.
